The use of reclaimed, seasoned oak wood as the foundation for this Earth Painting design symbolises strength, endurance and steadfastness. Across cultures, oak is seen as a symbol of stability, mirroring the determination of those who endure dehumanising processes and reclaim their sense of home and identity. 

More than a number
The numbering of each Earth Painting continues from our first series — a deliberate choice reflecting the dehumanising processes many refugees endure, where individuals are often reduced to statistics rather than recognised for their unique stories and inherent humanity.
